How can such historic times come with so many backward measures?

Last night I sat in front of the television with my family.
In place of the usual "Dancing with the Stars" or "America's got Talent" was something so much more important, life changing. And we were not the only ones.

I am a Canadian born and raised, somewhat liberal through and through, and have become completely sadden, frightened and angry with the actions of our neighbouring country over the last 8 years.

I try so hard to think of the good that may have come, of the lives that may have been saved by the threats of war, by the occupation of the American, Canadian, French, Russian troops in Iraq,Afghanistan,Palestine..... I try to think that some good some where may have come from the crashing markets, the impending doom of our "Free World" and last night, I found a little piece.

We have hope, because with out the last 8 years of fallout, dismay and global disillusionment perhaps last night we would never have seen The Country of the United States make the necessary change.

I am proud to say that I was witness to an African American becoming the 44th President of the United States of America. I am proud for 2008 and people of my age, who knew a change needed to be made, and stood up for the selves and that change, but at the same time, I am severely dismayed.

In the state of California they are going back against their word, and becoming ridiculously hypocritical, and because of this, I have chosen to share my voice and speak my mind.

You can talk about equal rights, and the freedom of minority all you want, but it is all talk.

How is it then that the Gay and Lesbian rights have no say. How is it then that you can promise a select group of people that they too have rights and may express and celebrate their sacred love for one another in the same way that anyone else may ( in some cases even cousin's) and then take that away

I am ashamed for the people, and I am ashamed for humanity!

What a disgrace to our population that we now can say Yes there is an African American President, but no Jill and Lil you can not celebrate your love as I do with my husband, you cannot protect your rights and wishes when god forbid your life may come to an end, you have no right to be able to adopt children and make a safe home for some one, when you so desperately wish to.

How can we stand next to a nation that has such low standard for human rights.

I am a married woman, and to me, marriage is not something that can be defined by Adam and Eve. I married my husband because of who he is to me and my soul, because he is the missing link in this fucked up world that I am just trying to survive day to day in, and if he was a Woman, I am proud to say that being in Canada, we would have been married and still had our day!

There are Men in this world who can have more than one wife, and 65 children, but two men, that's
just not gonna happen??

In Washington a Gay Man may now have the choice of assisted euthanization but can not stand before friends, family, and his own personal god to celebrate something so pure and honest and loving with his partner?

Grow up America! You claim you want change? Then make the change you claim you so decidedly need. Stand up for all Human Beings and stop letting the bible belt slap you across the hypocritical face!
